Anaerobic Degradation of Environmentally Hazardous Aquatic Plant Pistia stratiotes and Soluble Cu(II) Detoxification by Methanogenic Granular Microbial Preparation

The aquatic plant Pistia stratiotes L. is environmentally hazardous and requires effective methods for its utilization. harmfulness of these plants determined by their excessive growth in water bodies degradation local ecosystems. Mechanical removal widespread but fairly resource-intensive technology. However, are polymer-containing substrates have a great potential conversion into bioenergy. aim the work was to determine main patterns via granular microbial preparation (GMP) obtain biomethane gas while simultaneously detoxifying toxic copper compounds. composition phase chromatography. pH redox parameters were potentiometrically, Cu(II) concentration photocolorimetrically. Applying preparation, high efficiency fermentation detoxification achieved. Biomethane yield reached 68.0 ± 11.1 L/kg VS biomass. plants’ weight decreased 9 times. completely removed after 3 10 days from initial concentrations 100 ppm 200 ppm, respectively. result confirms possibility using GMP detoxify copper-contaminated fluids.
